Scott Barchard brings a strong combination of playing experience and coaching knowledge to Shield Goalie Academy. A native of Reading, Massachusetts, Scott attended The Rivers School, where he developed as a goaltender before continuing his hockey career at Tufts University. During his time at Tufts, Scott became one of the most decorated players in program history. He served as team captain for three seasons and earned the distinction of being the first All-American in Tufts Men’s Hockey history. He was also named to the NESCAC Men’s Ice Hockey All-Conference First Team. Scott holds the Tufts single-game saves record and finished his career as the program’s all-time saves leader with 2,781 saves. After graduating, Scott moved into coaching, joining both the Providence College women’s hockey coaching staff and the Tufts Men’s Hockey staff, where he helped support the development of their goaltenders. For the past 7 seasons, Scott has been a member of the Brooks School coaching staff, continuing to work closely with goalies and helping develop players at the prep school level. During his time coaching, he has worked with goalies who have gone on to play at Princeton University, Stonehill College, Wesleyan University, Suffolk University, Endicott College, and internationally with Team Japan. Scott brings a thoughtful, detail-oriented approach to goalie development, using his experience as an elite collegiate goaltender and coach to help athletes improve their skills, confidence, and understanding of the position.
Chris Czarnota brings a strong background in both playing and coaching to Shield Goalie Academy. A native of Wakefield, Massachusetts, Chris developed his game in the competitive New England hockey landscape before continuing his career at Norwich University. During his time at Norwich, Chris established himself as one of the most accomplished goaltenders in program history. He ranks third all-time with 10 career shutouts, and his career goals-against average stands among the best in Norwich history. Chris returned to Norwich University as an assistant coach, where he spent three seasons developing the next generation of goaltenders. During that time, he mentored two NEHC Goalie of the Year selections, including Tom Aubrun ’19, who went on to win the Sid Watson Award as the NCAA Division III National Player of the Year. Aubrun also set five NCAA Division III goaltending records during his remarkable career. After three successful seasons at Norwich, Chris was named the inaugural head coach of the Rivier University Women’s Ice Hockey program. Over two seasons, he helped establish the foundation for the program while continuing to develop goaltenders and student-athletes at the collegiate level. Chris brings a detailed, technical approach to goaltending development, combining his experience as an elite collegiate goalie with years of coaching and mentoring at the NCAA level.
Mike Morrison brings extensive playing and coaching experience to Shield Goalie Academy. A product of Medford Youth Hockey, Mike continued his development at two New England private school powerhouses, St. Sebastian’s School and Phillips Exeter Academy. He went on to play collegiately at the University of Maine, where he led the Black Bears to their second NCAA Division I National Championship win during his freshman year and finished as National Runner-Up his senior season. He was named First Team All–Hockey East in recognition of his outstanding performance. Mike was later drafted by the Edmonton Oilers and went on to play in the NHL with the Oilers, Ottawa Senators, and Arizona Coyotes. He concluded his professional playing career overseas, with stops in Austria and Sweden. Through his experiences playing at the youth, collegiate, professional, and international levels, Mike has developed a unique and analytical approach to goaltending. Having worked with numerous coaches across North America and Europe, he understands that every goalie is different and adapts his coaching style to fit each athlete’s individual strengths and development needs. In addition to coaching, Mike has also worked as a television hockey analyst for NESN, providing commentary during Hockey East and Boston Bruins broadcasts. Today, Mike continues his passion for the game while raising his two sons, both who are goalies
Steve Sheridan is a highly experienced hockey coach who has been involved in the sport for over twenty years. He has worked at all levels of the game, from Junior to College and the NHL, and has helped numerous players and teams achieve success. Currently, Steve holds the position of Assistant Varsity Hockey/Video Coordinator Coach at Suffolk University in Boston, MA, where he is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve player performance. Prior to this, he spent 12 seasons as an Assistant Varsity Hockey/Video Coordinator at the Rivers School in Weston, MA, and two seasons at the Middlesex School in Concord, MA. Steve's exceptional knowledge of hockey and professional video background make him an invaluable asset to the players and coaches he works with. His dedication to the sport and commitment to helping others achieve their goals is truly inspiring.
Rei Halloran grew up in Tokyo, Japan, before moving to the Boston area, where she attended Buckingham Browne & Nichols (BB&N) in Cambridge. At BB&N, she was a four-year member of the girls’ varsity hockey team, earning ISL Honorable Mention honors while also receiving the Class of ’33 Award and Cup Winner recognition. Internationally, Rei represented her country early in her career, earning selection to the Japan U18 Women’s National Team in 2019 and competing at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship. She went on to play collegiate hockey at Wesleyan University, where she was a three-year starter in goal. During her career, she posted a .924 save percentage and recorded 1,754 career saves, helping lead Wesleyan to the winningest season in program history. Through her career, she was named NESCAC Player of the Week and was a two-time recipient of the Jones Award. Following her collegiate career, Rei continued playing professionally in Norway and Sweden. She is a member of the Japan Women’s National Team and recently competed in the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games, making her Olympic debut against Sweden and finishing the tournament without allowing a goal. Rei has been part of Shield since the beginning—first as a student and now as a coach—where she can be found on the ice helping develop the next generation and continuing to grow the game.
Casen has been with Shield as student for many years and is now helping with on ice instruction. Casen started his Career at the Rivers schools where he led the team to a 2019 ISL Eberhart Championship runner up in 2019. Casen was then named ISL Eberhart Honorable Mention in 2020 a senior. Casen then made his way to the New Jersey Rockets in the NCDC where he committed to Suffolk University.
