Scott Barchard - Owner

Scott Barchard brings a strong combination of playing experience and coaching knowledge to Shield Goalie Academy. A native of Reading, Massachusetts, Scott attended The Rivers School, where he developed as a goaltender before continuing his hockey career at Tufts University. During his time at Tufts, Scott became one of the most decorated players in program history. He served as team captain for three seasons and earned the distinction of being the first All-American in Tufts Men’s Hockey history. He was also named to the NESCAC Men’s Ice Hockey All-Conference First Team. Scott holds the Tufts single-game saves record and finished his career as the program’s all-time saves leader with 2,781 saves. After graduating, Scott moved into coaching, joining both the Providence College women’s hockey coaching staff and the Tufts Men’s Hockey staff, where he helped support the development of their goaltenders. For the past 7 seasons, Scott has been a member of the Brooks School coaching staff, continuing to work closely with goalies and helping develop players at the prep school level. During his time coaching, he has worked with goalies who have gone on to play at Princeton University, Stonehill College, Wesleyan University, Suffolk University, Endicott College, and internationally with Team Japan. Scott brings a thoughtful, detail-oriented approach to goalie development, using his experience as an elite collegiate goaltender and coach to help athletes improve their skills, confidence, and understanding of the position.

Chris Czarnota

Chris Czarnota brings a strong background in both playing and coaching to Shield Goalie Academy. A native of Wakefield, Massachusetts, Chris developed his game in the competitive New England hockey landscape before continuing his career at Norwich University. During his time at Norwich, Chris established himself as one of the most accomplished goaltenders in program history. He ranks third all-time with 10 career shutouts, and his career goals-against average stands among the best in Norwich history. Chris returned to Norwich University as an assistant coach, where he spent three seasons developing the next generation of goaltenders. During that time, he mentored two NEHC Goalie of the Year selections, including Tom Aubrun ’19, who went on to win the Sid Watson Award as the NCAA Division III National Player of the Year. Aubrun also set five NCAA Division III goaltending records during his remarkable career. After three successful seasons at Norwich, Chris was named the inaugural head coach of the Rivier University Women’s Ice Hockey program. Over two seasons, he helped establish the foundation for the program while continuing to develop goaltenders and student-athletes at the collegiate level. Chris brings a detailed, technical approach to goaltending development, combining his experience as an elite collegiate goalie with years of coaching and mentoring at the NCAA level.

Mike Morrison

Mike Morrison brings extensive playing and coaching experience to Shield Goalie Academy. A product of Medford Youth Hockey, Mike continued his development at two New England private school powerhouses, St. Sebastian’s School and Phillips Exeter Academy. He went on to play collegiately at the University of Maine, where he led the Black Bears to their second NCAA Division I National Championship win during his freshman year and finished as National Runner-Up his senior season. He was named First Team All–Hockey East in recognition of his outstanding performance. Mike was later drafted by the Edmonton Oilers and went on to play in the NHL with the Oilers, Ottawa Senators, and Arizona Coyotes. He concluded his professional playing career overseas, with stops in Austria and Sweden. Through his experiences playing at the youth, collegiate, professional, and international levels, Mike has developed a unique and analytical approach to goaltending. Having worked with numerous coaches across North America and Europe, he understands that every goalie is different and adapts his coaching style to fit each athlete’s individual strengths and development needs. In addition to coaching, Mike has also worked as a television hockey analyst for NESN, providing commentary during Hockey East and Boston Bruins broadcasts. Today, Mike continues his passion for the game while raising his two sons, both who are goalies!

Rei Halloran

Rei Halloran grew up in Tokyo, Japan, before moving to the Boston area, where she attended Buckingham Browne & Nichols (BB&N) in Cambridge. At BB&N, she was a four-year member of the girls’ varsity hockey team, earning ISL Honorable Mention honors while also receiving the Class of ’33 Award and Cup Winner recognition. Internationally, Rei represented her country early in her career, earning selection to the Japan U18 Women’s National Team in 2019 and competing at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship. She went on to play collegiate hockey at Wesleyan University, where she was a three-year starter in goal. During her career, she posted a .924 save percentage and recorded 1,754 career saves, helping lead Wesleyan to the winningest season in program history. Through her career, she was named NESCAC Player of the Week and was a two-time recipient of the Jones Award. Following her collegiate career, Rei continued playing professionally in Norway and Sweden. She is a member of the Japan Women’s National Team and recently competed in the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games, making her Olympic debut against Sweden and finishing the tournament without allowing a goal. Rei has been part of Shield since the beginning—first as a student and now as a coach—where she can be found on the ice helping develop the next generation and continuing to grow the game.

Peter Barry

Peter Barry, a native of Stoneham, Massachusetts, is an experienced goaltender and coach with a deep understanding of the game. He was named Middlesex MVP in high school and earned USPHL Northeast Goalie of the Year honors before continuing his hockey career at Salem State University. With more than eight years of coaching experience, Peter brings a keen focus on technical development and fundamentals. He works with goalies of all levels to sharpen their technique, build confidence, and elevate their game.

Alicia Miksic

Alicia Miksic is originally from Pennsylvania and developed her passion for hockey while attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). During her graduate year, she earned a spot on the women’s ice hockey team competing at the NCAA Division I level. In addition to playing, Alicia spent four years coaching at the Watch The Puck Goalie Clinic in NY, where she helped young goaltenders build their skills and confidence on the ice. After moving to the Boston area, she continued her commitment to player development and has been coaching with Shield for the past several years, sharing her experience and love of the game with the next generation of athletes.

Eve Stone

Eve Stone, from Billerica, Massachusetts, attended The Rivers School, where she had an outstanding high school career. She earned NEPSAC Small School Tournament MVP honors, All-NEPSAC Small School recognition, and ISL All-League honors during her time at Rivers. Eve continued her hockey career at Stonehill College, graduating in 2026, and built an impressive collegiate resume in net. She earned multiple NEWHA Goaltender of the Week honors and was named to the NEWHA All-Tournament Team, as well as NEWHA Postseason Most Outstanding Player during her sophomore season. Over the course of her career, she recorded a .919 save percentage and 1,767 total saves, including a career-high 63-save performance against Franklin Pierce during her senior season. Eve began her journey with Shield Goaltending Academy as a student and now returns as a coach, bringing her high-level playing experience and passion for goaltending to help develop the next generation of goalies.

Alex Zafonte

Alex Zafonte brings collegiate and international playing experience, along with a passion for developing goaltenders, to Shield Goaltending Academy. A native of Concord, Massachusetts, Alex attended St. Sebastian’s School, where he earned All-ISL Honorable Mention honors twice. He continued his hockey career at Bowdoin College, graduating in just three years. Over the course of his collegiate career, Alex recorded a .901 save percentage and 1,375 total saves. After Bowdoin, he played professionally in Sweden with Sollefteå HK and Jonstorps IF, gaining valuable international experience in net. Alex has been coaching at Shield Goaltending Academy for the past three years, working with goaltenders of all ages and skill levels, helping them build strong fundamentals, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the position.

Ryan Bonnvie

Ryan Bonnvie brings a strong playing background and a passion for coaching to Shield Goalie Academy. Originally from Falmouth, Maine, Ryan played two years of prep school hockey at Tilton School in New Hampshire, where he developed his game while competing at a high level. After prep school, Ryan spent a season playing junior hockey with the CT RoughRiders in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), continuing to build his experience before moving on to the collegiate level. Ryan went on to attend Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he played four years of collegiate hockey and graduated in 2022 with a degree in Construction Management. Today, Ryan works full-time while continuing to stay involved in the game through coaching. He enjoys working with young goalies and helping them develop their skills, confidence, and understanding of the position.

Casen Janko

Casen has been part of Shield as a student for many years and now contributes by helping with on-ice instruction. He began his playing career at Rivers School, where he helped lead the team to a runner-up finish in the 2019 ISL Eberhart Championship. In his senior year, he earned ISL Eberhart Honorable Mention honors in 2020. Following his time at Rivers, Casen played for the New Jersey Rockets in the NCDC and then went on to play at Suffolk University.

Ethan Loo

Ethan Loo, a native of North Carolina, brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to Shield. He competed in ACHA Division II ice hockey at the University of Vermont, where he was honored as the team’s Defensive Player of the Year. With more than ten years of coaching experience, Ethan works with goaltenders to enhance their technique, build confidence, and maximize their performance on the ice.
