Shield Goalie Academy is the collaboration between Co-Founders Scott Barchard and Chris Czarnota who have been working together with goalies for years. The upcoming Summer camp is meant for goalies of all ages and skill level as it starts with fundamentals working up to more advanced game reads. This camp will be limited to 16 goalies to ensure goaltenders get plenty of shots and coaching. Barchard recently finished his fourth season as assistant coach at The Brooks School in North Andover, MA. Barchard was a captain of the Tufts men's varsity ice hockey team for three years. While at Tufts in 2009-10, he was named American Hockey Coaches Association Second Team All-American and NESCAC Men's Ice Hockey All-Conference First Team. Barchard holds the Tufts single-game saves record with 63 saves vs. St. Anselm College and the single-season save-percentage record with a .939 save percentage. He also is the career save leader with 2,781 saves. After his playing days Barchard joined Providence College Women’s Ice Hockey as a volunteer coach and held the same role at Tufts University. Scott has coached goalies at Princeton University, Wesleyan University and the Japanese National Team. Czarnota concluded his third season as an assistant coach with the Norwich University men's ice hockey program in 2019-20. During the 2019-20 season, he mentored the Sid Watson Award, Division III National Player of the Year winner Tom Aubrun '19, who went on to set five NCAA Division III goalie records. Aubrun repeated as the NEHC Goalie and Player of the Year and earned American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) First Team All-American honors. Aubrun carried a NCAA all-levels 572:31 consecutive shutout minutes streak (nine games) into the NCAA Tournament before it was cancelled.
